Will de-icing salts damage my pavers?
No. CST’s high density pavers are manufactured to resist deterioration from de-icing salts that are applied at the proper application rates.
Will snow plows damage or dislodge my pavers?
No. If properly installed, CST pavers fit tightly together forming a uniform surface presenting no problem for plows, snow blowers and shovels.
Do pavers lose color after they have been installed for a while?
The iron oxide pigments used to manufacture CST pavers have both color and UV stability. Dirt and normal wear from traffic can appear to change the color over time. Cleaning and sealing can restore and enhance the color.
Is a concrete footing required to support my VERSA-LOK® wall?
No. VERSA-LOK® walls are installed on shallow, non-rigid leveling pads consisting of well-compacted gravel, crushed stone or coarse sand -- even in northern climates that experience freeze/thaw cycles. The flexible nature of the walls allows them to accommodate minor earth movement without damage.
If a paver get damaged or broken, can it be replaced?
Yes, we recommend that you save a few pavers from the initial installation. They are good to have just in case you need to replace one or two.
How high can I build a VERSA-LOK® wall without Geogrid?
Walls that support heavy loads or exceed four feet in height require special soil reinforcement and often require professionally designed plans. Please consult a qualified engineer if unsure about any construction, site or soil conditions. Also, be sure to check local building codes before wall construction or design begins.
How do I ensure that the colors of my paver project are blended properly?
During paver installation, make sure that pavers are chosen from several pallets simultaneously to evenly distribute the CST blended color. This will avoid a “blotchy” appearance.
What is the whitish haze I sometimes see on concrete pavers and walls?
Usually it is efflorescence which is a white deposit that sometimes appears on the surface of concrete, masonry or clay products. Although it can come from a number of sources, efflorescence is often a natural by-product of cement hydration. Technically known as calcium hydroxide, it appears as a white film when carried to the surface by moisture. Efflorescence is unsightly when it first appears but is not indicative of a flawed product. In many cases it is scoured off during installation but it can be removed using specialty cleaners. It will lessen and dissipate over time.
Can VERSA-LOK® walls be used to create raised patio areas?
Yes, Versa-LOK® walls are an excellent way to add more outdoor living space. They are used to encase and support the base materials you would use to bring the raised area to the desired height. Versa-LOK® wall systems will easily allow you to incorporate stairs, steps or columns into the raised patio.
There’s a low spot in my paver driveway. Are the pavers defective?
No. Settlement is often caused by inadequate soil or base compaction, or by poor drainage. This can be easily repaired by taking up the pavers, correcting the problem and reinstalling the pavers.
